The covered roadside melon
huts are the latest Yeoju-gun attraction. Here,
in one of over 150 huts, customers can buy melons
direct from farmers to help stimulate the regional
economy.
In the 1990¡¯s, the Yeoju melon became known as one
of the specialty products of the region and is known
throughout the country for its great taste. |

 |
Avoid melons that give off a rather dull sound
when thumped and those that sink completely
when immersed in water.
Avoid melons that are too young or too mature
and look for thick, healthy stems that are
still intact.
In most cases, the smaller the melon, the
sweeter the fruit will be.
Look for melons that are firm and elongated
like a football. Smell is also important.
Sniff the fruit and see if you can catch a
whiff of its sweet scent. (The flesh should
be white. If it¡¯s too dark, it indicates that
the fruit has been sitting around for a while
or was picked after the ideal time.)
