This Foundation has a hole of 16.2cm in diameter
and 4.3cm in depth for the insertion of a rain gauge.
This Foundation was originally established in Geummunwon,
at Changdeokgung Palace. This fact can be confirmed
by Hwajeonungchi, a Japanese man who wrote in his
research paper that the rain gauge was in place
while it was in Changdeokgung, and by the contents
of Hangyeongsingnyak.According to the text engraved
on this Foundation, it was made in the hopes of
rain during June and July of 1782 (6th Year of King
Jeongjo, Joseon) when there had been a prolonged
drought. The text was made by Shim Yeom Jo and written
by Jeong Ji-geom. |
