There is a beautiful Stone Lamp right in front of
the Stone Bell of Naong, Bojejonja. This Stone Lamp
is standing right in front of the monument and it
has a very unique structure. Granite was primarily
used for the construction of the Stone Lamp as is
usual, but agalmatolite was also used for one specific
part. Flying fairies or dragons are engraved on
this part for splendid decoration. While the Stone
Bell can be compared to a man as its shape is simple
without any detailed engravings, this Stone Lamp
can be compared to a woman because of its beautiful
and detailed engravings. The basic structure of this
Stone Lamp is also octagonal. Octagonal stones are
laid on an octagonal stylobate. It is a pity that
the engravings of flying fairies and dragons have
been destroyed to a serious extent. This Stone Lamp
shows the representative style of late Goryeo¡¯s
Stone Lamps and one of the pioneers of Joseon¡¯s
Stone Lamps is standing in front of the tombs. |
